6 Things you Must Know about the New Gracie Barra Jiu-Jitsu Belt System

GB Dana Point - Monday, February 06, 2012
Gracie Barra Dana Point Jiu-Jitsu Kids New Belt System

This Thursday, Gracie Barra Jiu-Jitsu Parents will meet to learn all there is to learn about our new belt system for Kids. Here is a few things everyone must know preparing to the transition:

  1. The current belt system was designed by Great Grand Master Carlos Gracie Sr. back in the mid 1900s. In those days, there was very few kids training martial arts who were less than 7 years old;
  2. The current belt system presents limitations because it has just a few belts. Because of age requirements, children are getting stuck on the same belt for year. Example, a students of 7 years old who gets a yellow belt would only be promoted to orange belt 3 years later.
  3. The decision to move to the new belt system is made by the parents and students under the advise of a coach or professor. In case the student does not want to switch to the new belt system, he or she does not let it.
  4. The new belt system is a great solution! Why? 1) It has a total of 13 belts; 2) Committed students get one stripe per month; 3) committed students get one belt per year.
  5. We will start testing for belt promotions in a few months.
  6. Belt System is a essential teaching method because it offers a way to measure individual progress and establishes achievable goals keeping the student motivated.
Our meeting will be this Thursday from 4.30pm to 7.00pm.

See you all there.

I really hope our students can empathize with this months campaign and join forces with us" - Says our head instructor professor Flavio Almeida

Why GB Dana Point Martial Arts Students Should Always Learn Self-Defense?

GB Dana Point - Wednesday, January 25, 2012
Gracie Barra Dana Point and Self Defense Training for BJJ and Martial Arts

Gracie Dana Point Self Defense

One of the first motivations a person have to learn martial arts is the self defense aspect of it. For children and adults, male or female, the need to become self defense smart is a predominant reason why most people come to our schools.

As part of the Gracie Barra Dana Point Jiu-Jitsu Fundamentals Program for 4 to 6 months, a typical student will have developed an above average ability to protect himself or herself.

Training BJJ gets more and more exciting as the months and the years go by. We all get addicted i a good way to the Jiu-Jitsu game and techniques and become really focused on sports Jiu-Jitsu.

We must never lose sight thought of the importance to maintain and continue to develop our self defense skills. On the video below, renowend MMA and BJJ figther Professor Ricardo Almeida shares his idea about why all BJJ students must continually practice Self-Defense.
